Vegetable crisps from the canton of Bern: from Iffwil to Siselen
Our beetroot and carrots grow in Iffwil and are vacuum-fried and packed in Siselen. The whole journey of our vegetable crisps stays in the canton of Bern.
With many vegetable crisps on the shelf it is hard to say where the vegetables come from. With ours it is simple: the whole journey from field to bag lies within the canton of Bern and covers just over 60 km.
Iffwil: where the beetroot and carrots grow
Our beetroot and carrots come from a farm in Iffwil, a village in the Bernese Mittelland. This is where they are grown and harvested. Because both vegetables store well, we can work with produce from the same area outside the harvest season too.
Siselen: where they become crisps
From the farm, the beetroot and carrots travel about 28 km to Siselen in the Seeland region. There M. + R. Schwab AG processes them: the vegetables are sliced, vacuum-fried and packed. How vacuum frying works and why it is gentle on colour and taste is explained in a separate article.
Bern: where VeCrisps is based
From Siselen it is about 35 km to Bern, where VeCrisps is based. From here we answer enquiries, look after wholesale and restaurants, and ship orders throughout Switzerland and Liechtenstein.
Why it matters to us
Short distances: field, production and shipping are close together.
Traceable: we can name every place.
Rooted in the seasons: beetroot and carrots are classic Swiss storage vegetables.
We also show the route as a map on our homepage. You can order the crisps in the shop from three bags: beetroot, carrot or mixed.
